Beef exports closed on a high in the first quarter of 2019, according to data from the Secretary of Foreign Trade (Secex), released by the Brazilian Association of Beef Exporting Industries (Abiec). In this period, shipments totaled 538,523 tons, an increase of 11.7% in relation to the same period last year, when 482,114 tons were exported. In terms of revenue, exports for the first four months of the year totaled US$ 2.01 billion, up 3.1% from the US$ 1.9 billion recorded in the first four months of 2018.
The volume of in natura beef exported in the first three months of this year was the second largest in history, behind only the one verified in 2007. The revenue in national currency received in the same period, in turn, was a record. Shipments made in March contributed to this result.
